I absolutely agree! Hahah. I've read a lot of mixed information on various forums. That's why I turned to the forum I could trust!

I don't think you're driving pattern is a problem.

I would check all your ground straps though, there area lot on these cars and they do go bad. There is an important one under your battery

As for the fuel in your oil, that could be caused by a bad fuel mix at start up from failed or hard starts. It would be best to change the oil and filter to get the oil system back to a good lubricant condition. Fuel in the oil wont be good for lubrication. A bad MAF likely caused that.

A few sources recommend replacing the MAF along with o2 sensors once per 100,000 miles for peek performance and economy.

Letting your car warm up (idle for longer than 1 minute) on cold is not good for the car engine or economy. The owners manual advises against it. I usually start the car, let the idle settle down, then drive passively until it is warm.

As for gas smell in oil. I noticed gas in an extra crankcase vent catch can i installed. I replaced my injector with a rebuilt set, because of this (205K miles). I noticed one of the intake manifold ports (ejector) was clean compared to the others. I had no miss fire codes.

Bill

As for the KN filter, I would go back to paper

I'm certainly going to change the oil as soon as I get the new MAF in and make sure the car is running.

I will consider putting a new O2 in when I hollow the cat, but I don't want to put a whole lot of money into this car, as it won't be my daily for much longer, only a few more months. Then I'll have time to go over the car fully and make sure everything is working properly and up to snuff.

I know it's not good to let a car idle for very long, but the problem is I have very hard starts, and the car doesn't hold idle RPMs. As soon as it fires, it drops to normal RPMs, not gradually like it should. Could that possibly be from my MAF failing? That's also why I let it warm up, if I try to start and just drive off after a minute, it felt like I didn't have much power until it started to warm.

I did check my injectors to make sure the seals weren't leaking and I didn't notice anything. We did just have the intake off too to change the PCV and we cleaned everything and put new o-rings and seals on the injectors. All should be good there, but I will keep my eye out for drips of gas.

When you oil yours. Do you do both sides, or just one? I only did one side on mine (The outside obviously ) And I made sure to leave it sit for about 30 minutes and then wipe the excess off very good.

Check all your hoses. A few go to the charcol box located under the front driver side of the car. Maybe just one is slipped, cracked, etc...

I just spent 300 Washingtons researching and replacing sensors for almost the exact same problem. It wasnt until my car broke down by the horseshoe casino that I finally figured out I cant just throw money at the problem.

I checked all my vacuum hoses and lo & behold, the t joint connecting to my power brake booster was completely off. If you havent replaced all the hoses by 200,000 miles, they can easily slip out when servicing the air filter.

Btw, I did buy a used MAF sensor, and it made my car purr like a dog when you rub its belly!
Mine is a 94, 850 with 233,000 so it was time to replace it.

Pro Tip: Keep a can of MAF cleaner & spray your sensor a couple rides AFTER you clean your K&N.

Those filters work perfect and save tons in the long run. Paper is safer, but you got an 850. Youre already safe enough 8)

I have not done anything with any of my vacuum lines, other than the one for the PCV. I know it's time to replace all of them. One is melted, and the others are dry rotted. I did check to make sure none of them came off or have cracks in them. I have a box of vacuum hose, but that's just one of those things I'm waiting to do till the weather breaks

I went to the K&N just for that, to help save some money on buying filters. It definitely improved the throttle response at lower RPMs as well.

Well, still double check. If you hear any whooshing sound in while the car is running, from under the hood. Its prolly a leak...
