I think there are three engines in play here

2.4 NA
2.3 LPT
2.3HPT

If your T5 is like mine it has the 2.3HPT

I would stick to that engine if you don't want a major project.

On edit...I just did a quick scan of resources And these models were changing over the 99 00 01 years.

Search for the specific year manuals online, and then go back to the technical section to get the exact engine code (Bxxxxx) to match

Sorry I can't do this from Ipad on the NYC subway.... :-)

The 2.4NA from 99 has no CVVT and the 2.4NA from 2000 has CVVT on the opposite side to your exhaust CVVT on your T5.

Stick with the other two turbo choices for ease of fitment.

The 2000 and 2001 MY engines were the same and have solid lifters instead of hydrualic. You can tell which you have by the presence of multiple torx fasteners near the spark plug holes on the solid lifter versions.

So only use 2.3HPT / LPT or 2.4 LPT correct ? Your help is appreciated.

Either of the turbos is fine as long as 99 or preferably 2000 MY so CVVT won't present challenges.

Thanks. I'll use my injectors and intake / exhaust manifolds.

You should be able to do a compression test if you can reach the electrical connections on the starter.

Look at the level of sludge in the crankcase to get a sense of how it was maintained.

+1, def check compression. Similarly, get a flashlight and peer in through the oil filler cap. How do the cams look? You can't see a whole lot this way but better than not looking at all. Sludge or a lot of rust would be bad signs, better would be shiny metal. Best would be if you can see it in the car and get a general idea about maintenance habits.

Greetings. Thanks guys. I'll follow the steps in RSPI's video and keep y'all updated. Seller / recycler invited me to inspect engine before he will pull it.
