Front seats - What's compatable?

Post by Bob Mazzi »

I have a 1996 850 wagon. The front seats need help, as many do. i just visited the local U-Pull-It and of course, no 850s. Which brings me to the questions.

1. Do any of the later seats interchange completely? I saw an 04 V70 that was better, but that's definitely a redesign of lots of sheet metal. Did the seats change between the early and later V70s?

2. What skins work, and how easy is it to pull from a seat in place? There was an S80 that had nice leather for example, but the frames are way different. And in the yard, no battery to slide the seat forward and back to get bolts out.

3. I have access to a 2000 V70 with cloth, would that be a direct switch? They "look" like the mounts are the same....

Basically S/V70 seats are two generations...

1992-2000
2001-2008

No compatibility between

C70 seats/leather will fit with minor warts.

And 99-00 is same basic design as your 850 except the airbags are different so you lose seat airbags if you swap to those.

The way the seat and SIPS system changed in 98-99 cars. 98 and older were mechanically activated, and 99- electrical.

A lot more work, but you could swap the covers over from a car up to 2000 (P80 shape) but same issue is they may be no better. Cloth may be a better option as they generally hold up well.

abscate compiled this thread on seat cover options. Looks like a few ways to buy new covers. I plan to do that once my mechanical issues are sorted.
