I would be amazed if an ECU swap solves your problem.
Is your mechanic a Volvo guy or just a random wrencher?
I would expect any experienced P80 guy to look at the
much more viable stage 0 possibilities for misfires.
The wearing parts, like plugs, wires, cap/rotor, connections
sensors, seals, hoses, etc. are where I would get started.
A bad ECU is more likely to crap out wholesale and just
plain not work at all. They generally work or they don't.
A second opinion may be worth looking into. Good Luck!

I have a US spec LPT turbo ECU here. Jimmy57 sent it to me about 3 years ago and still in box sitting on the shelf.
I'll check the Bosch number to be certain.
He assured me it was from a working vehicle with no issues.
You can have it for replacement cost plus postage which isn't too steep perhaps $35-$40 but I have to check with Auspost. PM me if interested.

I think it was Timmy (professional mechanic) that share an acronym that basically stated when they don't have a clue, they tell you ECU....
It is a long, tortuous path of diagnosis before you settle on an ECU as the problem. We probably have seen 2-3 ECU solutions here on this forum, in history - and those were usually because someone Fubarred it.
From the other thread, I recall that you had a cylinder 4 or 5 miss that was code indicated. Have you tried moving plugs and injectors to see if the miss moves?
Also, if its ECU, it would have to be fuel injector signals to make a cylinder miss consistently - any data here?

All good questions. I'll reply in the other thread since that was the diagnostics and this thread is about what compatible ECU's might work. the diagnostic thread - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=69082abscate wrote:I think it was Timmy (professional mechanic) that share an acronym that basically stated when they don't have a clue, they tell you ECU....

I am slowly pulling parts from my '98 V70 T5. It will be striped of everything I can get. Everything worked until a burnt valve or two slowed it down. Let me know if I can help with parts.

Thanks for the generous offer. I'll need to verify the part#. I may take you up on your offer as Plan B - seems like ECUs can be had on Ebay $35 shipped or thorough the local U-Pull. If those don't yield something this week I may be in touch.precopster wrote:I have a US spec LPT turbo ECU here. Jimmy57 sent it to me about 3 years ago and still in box sitting on the shelf.

Really if I was getting a shipment from you in Australia I'd be tempted to also have shipped some parts for my Moyes hang glider and this http://www.subarugears.com/ so I can put a Subaru transmission into my now Subaru powered VW vanagon camper that has the engine in the rear. You guys make some REALLY COOL things down under.
