I believe you also need 4GB of Ram, at least 40GB of memory, Windows 7 Pro (what Volvo recommends), and INTERNET EXPLORER 8. IE8 was something that was causing me problems too. Also-- I have had to move the plug from USB port to USB port from time to time. (I'm a Mac guy-- these PCs throw me off-- I am okay with my PC at work, but I'm still not used to windows on a laptop).

I am meeting with my computer expert in the next several days so I will keep everyone posted on my progress. I think, at least initially, we will take copster's recommendation to scrub the 8 then reload. The laptop I'm using has 3 gb of RAM, though, so I think we're OK there.

I haven't seen or heard of anybody installing Vida directly on Win 8 unless on a VM Ware image (files are here on MVS if you want to load it that way.......search VM Ware image)

We have a copy of VM Ware running XP on Win 8 on our own spare laptop and it works fine.

Hello All,

So at the suggestion of my computer expert son, I sent my new/used computer I paid $175 to my son in Chicago with the software. Unfortunately, although USPS indicates in the tracking that it was "left in or at the mailbox", it is nowhere to be seen. My son is now in a frenzy (I told him don't worry about it - we will never purchase another Ford again), and said he would purchase a used computer and load the software that he can "rip" from the internet.

Now, here, back East, I've got the hardware box (not sure what you call it). Should he just purchase the 2014A or whatever for $10 on ebay?

Soon, we'll be up to about $400 for this VIDA boondoggle and I hope the bleeding ends soon. All I really want to do at the present time is reset my transmission counter!
Thanks for any help you can offer.

So it's now a month or so later. I sent my computer to my son in Chicago and it got stolen. He purchased another computer with 4 gigs of RAM and after struggling with multiple OS's and different versions of VIDA he finally folded and downloaded a canned virtual machine with VIDA preinstalled. The virtual machine runs VIDA perfectly - I'm able to run the software and input the basic spec's to my vehicle. The problem we've now encountered is on the DICE side of things. When I plug in DICE to the ODB port and turn the key to position 2 only a steady red light turns on (after some flashing blue/green startup lights). When we then plug the DICE into the computer, the computer doesn't detect that new hardware has been plugged in and doesn't even show DICE in the device manager. The VM we used is the one from here. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is the DICE bricked? The steady red light especially worries me.

I'm not happy to announce bad news for you but your DiCE is a brick especially if your PC does not detect it.

Don't quite follow....are there some other steps I need to take to get the VM to recognize/communicate with DICE? Is it not just a sort of 'plug-and-play' setup?

It should be but some of the Dice units take odd drivers that need to be loaded outside of the normal VIDA installation.

We've tried three different computers - just to see if it would recognize the hardware and none of them actually detect the DICE unit when it's connected, blue and green lights flashing repeatedly. Think I should give up on this DICE unit. After struggling with the software side, I though the hardware would be easy.
