You may need someone else (ie a GOOD mechanic) to do the breather, it's not for the inexperienced and I would guess about 110% that it needs to be done ASAP, not later, but now.
You don't need to test it, if there's any amount of oil up there, it's clogged.

And, you don't replace the complete oil cap, it's just the $3.00 seal you replace.

If that turns out to be the case then I have a trusted mobile mechanic I can call on and yeah I nearly ordered the seal but managed to get a cap for the same price as dealer was getting rid of stock.

I'm going to do this test as mentioned by Shane but JRL after what you said, have been doing some research on google and research suggests even if your car passes this "test" the PCV systen can still be bad so I guess I better start planning for the system to be correctly looked at as I plan on keeping this car long term.

Yes Shane, I do want to do my own work and I have purchased the tools etc, started doing my own servicing but if I get stuck then the mobile mechanic can help out but each time there is a job to be done, I watch the guide videos a few times (mainly roberts) so not saying I won't attempt the job if needed as I have the time and space, there is no rush.

That would be great my friend but I don't plan on moving from the UK, yet!

I done the two tests and I "passed" , always nice to pass a test but aswell as the previous garage doing a bodge job on the spark plug covers, they also destroyed one of the threads for the 6 bolts by using an air gun as I noticed before one of the bolts would go in at an angle when tightening by hand.

The filler cap seal is fucked, can see that, so once the new cap arrives, I will run the car for a few days and see if any new leaking oil appears and then take it from there.

But just to add, am not going to leave the system, am going to have it serviced and am watching these guides to see if I can tackle it myself one weekend as the car isn't used much at the moment after being a daily drive for the past year and am going to look through any records to see if any mention of the system being serviced by previous owners.

Updating this thread for this suggestion I found from another forum in an old thread, which I'm not suggesting as an alternative but:

When I got a similar problem I read up about dismantling and cleaning the PCV and oil trap system but in the end improved the situation dramatically just by cleaning out the small vacuum hose from the white plastic Y piece to the inlet manifold. It had completely blocked with carbonised oil for its entire length. I think this small hose is quite crucial for creating vacuum in the system and it is vulnerable to clogging.

That could be a problem also. That plastic piece becomes brittle over time and usually breaks upon remove. Again, I know this How???
The "J" port going into the engine is also a problem place and therefore removal of box is needed.
How do your rear cam seals look? "leaking or dry".
I was told that the car I have now has never had the PCV system done. I have 171,000 on the engine. It passed the glove test and not leaking from anywhere. You could be lucky and the leak was the cap.
I would be glad to come over and help if you pay travel.
