1999 V70R Very odd driveline issue

Nope, the angle gear can be year specific. A 2000 V70R and a 2000 XC have the same angle gear, but use a different sleeve part number between the angle gear and the trans. Otherwise the same.

From Vida, the part number for the angle gear is : 8602679. This according to the part look up was used on 98 and 99 AWD V70 and V70XC, and 98 S70 AWD both manual and auto trans. You may have to check the connecting sleeve. Having said that, you may want to consider replacing that anyway as they can wear badly depending on how the car has been driven.

Try vandsautodismantlers on West coast or Erie Vo-vo on East, or I think they are called Sothern Vo-vo (advertise on MVS). If the know their stuff they should be able to tell you what works.

I pulled one recently from a 2000 XC and it was toast. The sleeve had been totally stripped of its teeth and took the angle gear teeth with it!

I persuade the local PnP that the Angle gear + VC was the Volvo equivalent of a transfer case, and paid $130 CDN for both! Took the angle gear back and paid $30 CDN for the viscous coupling!
