A used cylinder head goes for around $100 on the low end if you want to do it yourself. Don't know what it would be at a shop, but it would be a lot more than that.

I just had my head rebuilt and without any valve replacement it was $350 and another $100 for stem seals.

You could go to a pick and pull and grab another head for under $100, but rebuilding would still be a good idea since you have it off.

Ok, I was going to scrap the car because having a shop do the repair was going to be way more than it was worth. A local shop quoted me $500 for a completely rebuild head and I'll doo this myself. There are lots of good tutorials around and the work looks tedious but not overly hard. While I'm at it im going to replaces all of the timing components. Is there anything else I should consider? I'd like to make this as close to maintenance free for a few years as I can.

Glad to hear you're not going to scrap it! I hate seeing (fairly) easily repairable cars scrapped.
I'd replace the drive belt along with the timing belt & other components. Other than all of the gaskets and everything, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that you should replace.
