I have not had this personally, as the axle seals tend to go first. I have read about some owners modifying the rear diff cover to fit a larger vent to prevent this type of issue. The vent hole is very tiny and is up near the centre top of the back cover so hard to see. Unfortunately to modify this requires removing the rear diff, and if you read my trials of rebuilding the rear end of my 2000 R, it is not something you want to try unless you want to keep the car forever. I reckon between obsolete and hard to find parts it cost me nearly $6000 to do all the rebuild and 9 months! I recall Big Will either putting a link in for the mod by someone else, or he did it himself on his car.
Neil.
