The cheap pre-assembled strut kits are like a revolving door. Gabriel and Monroe have been posted about a lot on here. Unity is the latest so it may be that no one has used that oe, but you are hearing the experience of people who have tried similar setups.

Dozens of people have tried aftermarket spring seats, with uniformly bad experiences. I can guarantee the spring seats in the Unity will not last very long.

I ended up putting in Monroe struts and shocks. I used Aftermarket Auto spring seats and strut mounts from eBay and Meyle rear shock mounts from FCP. The eBay mount/spring seat combo is by far the best value ($60 for all four pieces). Plus they come with a 10 year warranty.
I know it seems risky, but so far they are holding up fine.

I just put a set of these on my 2003 XC-90. I have to add a disclaimer: I am getting ready to take the car to Florida, where my daughter lives, and it will be used by my wife when she visits. This car will get driven less than 5,000 miles a year. If I were going to keep this car in Iowa (where secondary roads are not good) and use it as a daily driver I would likely go with OEM. So far the Unity struts seem to be of decent quality and the ride is much improved over the original set that had 137,00 miles on them. I also replaced a CV half shaft, front rotors and pads while I had it jacked up. Putting on a set of tires today and hopefully when I drive it to Fl next week it will live a peaceful retirement there. This has been by far the most expensive Volvo I have owned as far as maintenance. I will update if the Unity struts fail in the near future.

I bought the Unity Strut Assemblies from CARID for my 2011 Volvo S60 T6 in Jan.2021 and didn't install them until April 2021. I changed all my suspension parts. Lower Control Arms from Sidem, Tie Rod Ends from Sidem, Sway Bars from Lemfoerder and then installed the Unity Strut Assemblies. THEY FAILED in LESS THAN 5 MONTHS. NOW I'M FIGHTING WITH CARID TO RETURN THEN UNTIL WARRANTY> DO NOT BUT THEM !!! THEY ARE JUNK !!!

Never had any issues! That car has since been parted out, but it had about 30-40k miles on those suspension parts. The spring seats weren't the best looking by the time I tore the car down, but they hadn't failed completely. I would advise going with OEM spring seats and strut mounts.
The Meyle shock mounts in the rear are still doing well, I actually used those along with the Monroe shocks when I delta link-swapped my '00 V70R. They are still installed and doing well in that car, however I do plan on replacing the struts with Koni STR.T shocks to match the front.

Abby has Konis on Evita, her 1999 S70 , and they rock.

Remember you aren’t just paying fir quality with name branded Volvo stuff, it’s consistency , too

Thanks for the long term service report. It seems rare for MVS to a long term report on alternative brands.

That goes for any forum. Unfortunately people post about parts (or anything else, for that matter) and years later when somebody else is curious, the user is nowhere to be found. Same issue with various problems that go unsolved.

In this world, a part A you bought 5 years ago from Brand B has no relation to the part you buy today from vendor C, even with the same part number

The exception is OE Volvo parts.

Price will tell you the quality, 95% of the time.
