"unity automotive" strut set on ebay

Post by SonicAdventure »

Anybody ever go for the Unity Automotive strut sets for a Volvo off of eBay? Sold by completestruts for $225 free shipping?

If I get another 1-2 years out of my wagon I will be happy, but I have to replace the struts the noise of the spring seats and the sloppy ride are killing me. Thanks.

Exactly.
I once tried some Monroe struts which were half the cost of OEM Sachs. The first really bad pothole caused one of the Monroe to lose its gas.

You can get the Sachs struts for around the same from Rock Auto. I wouldn't use any lower end brand in my Volvo. They don't last.

I'd advise just shelling out for OEM or Sachs struts. Cheap struts ride like cheap struts. I've felt cheap struts that have honestly felt worse then failing stock struts.

If you only need the strut assembly without the spring seat/strut bearing, go with Stagg cheapo chinese stuff. But only for the front suspension. I had this junk for 2 years and the front suspension did held well. The ride was crap but it worked.

Alternatively, a used set of OEM is worth a try if you can figure out it has less than 60k miles on it.

Bilstein Touring TC struts is $125 (search eeuroparts dot com or ebay etc.), or $250/set.

How many miles in your 1998 S70?

Just FYI to folks who are quoting prices: the Unity part for $125 is a complete strut assembly, strut-spring-seat-mount. It is ready-mount junk. :)

So I see lots of opinion and conjecture..... has any one ACTUALLY installed and driven on these fully assembled unity struts, that after pricing all components ,will save me somewhere in the range of $500 when compared to a complete Sachs setup ,not including extra install time and head ache.
I understand cheap vs less expensive . I don't want cheap. I want value ,if that means Sachs then so be it. But till I win powerball  I need to be conscious of cost also.
