PROBLEM SOLVED:
Often we don't hear "the rest of the story," so here it is...
The culprit was the MAF Sensor. It was kind of hard to diagnose because it wasn't throwing codes, and it's a poorly maintained engine with 250,000+ miles on it. Everything on/in it is filthy. Also, it was kind of random. The car would run great for a couple minutes, then flop into this weird loping/gasping/revving/dying mode. Then it'd correct itself.
The MAF Sensor was $25 from a local U-Pull-It Salvage Yard. The car threw an ECT Sensor code, so I grabbed one off the same car I cannibalized for the MAF Sensor. I also picked up an IAC Valve, cleaned it and installed it. That was $10. While I had stuff apart, I thoroughly cleaned the Throttle Body.
All in all, it took some time, some head-scratching, and $35 to make my buddy VERY happy!
Thanks for the help everyone!
