05' V70 thermostat bad?

My '04 V70 was doing the same thing. Heating up VERY slowly. In fact, I had a CEL come on, and the trouble code indicated that the thermostat was bad.

It is a royal pain in the butt to get to this thermostat! I removed the power steering pump, with made it possible but not easy.

In the end, my thermostat wasn't bad. It was set in the housing incorrectly. For that I was over $100 worth of grateful!

I purchased a Beck&Arnley housing and the thermostat inside was also placed incorrectly with the burp pin not at top. I just split the housing open and placed it correctly, but it's interesting to see a similar issue.

This actually is EASIER. Even if you buy the whole housing replacing just the thermostat will save time and nerves. Lower torx bolt is a PIA. I almost stripped it, and will never do it "the right way" ever again. No point in doing so.

I didn't think of it this way. I tought about taking the whole thing out and then splitting it. So need to find the part number for the gasket and the thermostat, anything else to buy if I wanted to try this?

Glad you found a combo that worked. I have the local family hardware store (basically a big bog without lumber) in a small building. My tool set (MacTools Foose special edition) and couldn't find a combination. The Craftsman torx driver socket was only available in 1/2" drive. I did obviously get the belt on when someone returned home to help me. Yeah, the tool is expensive (I got it for $26.96 on sale back in late Sept), but now I don't have to rely on help. It's free to borrow if anyone in the Contoocook Valley / Monadnock Region is stuck. I've got all kinds of things like dual piston brake compressors, torque wrenches, etc.

Yeah that is weird - not just that it happened to somebody else, but that it actually CAN happen. I mean, what are the odds that a thermostat can be installed incorrectly (at an odd angle) yet have the housing be able to "allow" that.

I did the exact same thing. B&A, moved air vent to the top (Thank you Robert DIY for the tip).
