GKN / Lobro boots will last. $10 for the outer CV at AutoHausAZ. Or search the forum there are several posts about an Audi boot that works for the inner CV.

GKN and only GKN. Here is how you can buy the inner GKN, which is less critcal but doing the work twice sucks big time

I believe I got a better pair of CV axles from FCP.

I have used the universal stretch boots many time on my volvos with success! Once you buy the kit with the cone, all you have to do next time is buy the universal stretch boot from any part store and clamps, and they should last a long time. That way you can keep your factory axle and don't have to disassemble.

I agree with huzzsaba on the stretch boots. I use them when I see cracks starting to develop on the boots. The key word is cracked, not torn. File this under preventative maintenance.

Interesting, I am curious to know more about this approach, could someone please provide a link to a stretch boot, maybe a brand you have used?

I have always removed the axle from the car. It is just easier for me. I wipe out all the grease I can, slip on the boot then put in new grease. Catching a boot that is cracked not torn you can go this route. If a boot is torn a complete tear down and cleaning is necessary. The key to keeping your axles in good working order is to periodicly inspect the boots.

I have done it both way, with it out and with it on the car. SImply slide the boot on, fill it with grease and clamp it. I never had to clean it since I usually caught them right as they leaked.

parts stores carry Dorman Brand. You have to ask for the universal boot and the box will have a photo of the tool that stretches the boot.
