The Beetle is a really fun turbo stick 1.8 , but it hasn't got many miles on it. I do drive it once a week, and get it up to 60 and fully booked hot, but that's still only about 50-100 miles a week or 3-5k per year.

The Beetle turbo really needs full synthetic ( known sludge prone motor) and I only want one kind of oil to worry about anyhow.

On the BMW forum, I was thrown off when I told them I change that oil every 15000 miles.

A quart/liter every 2000 miles is considered normal use by most manufacturers, even if some cars ( three of mine) use none in 7000 miles. Not worth fixing, correct.

Scots were branded as cheap by the English. When I went to work in England I told them I was sent as a missionary to teach the English to buy a round of drinks and not just their own!

I had an old dodge spirit 20 years ago that burned loads of oil... A qt every 300 miles. It had about 200k on it, the previous owner never took care of it either.

All I fed that thing was some sort of used/filtered/recycled oil they sold at a local mom and pop garage. It was solid for a year until it chucked a rod as I was pulling into work.

Consider it this way - if the oil's good enough to consider using it in your other cars, why remove it from the first car at all?

Conversely, if it's not good enough to just leave in the Beetle, why would it be good enough to put in the other cars?

You've touched on a good pint, which I have considered. The VW recommendation is 7500 or one year, so I'm going with the time interval. This engine is known for sludging and I think the oil pump is worn from sludge, so I do not mind keeping relatively new oil in it. Between my two slight oil using cars I will use the 5 Qts. slightly used oil in one year.

One of my daughters is eyeballing Beetle for college so it might get normal miles next year anyhow

This is crazy. Really it is $5.20 per 2,500 miles if you are using full synthetic oil like Mobile 1. I'm sure you are wasting gas or something more than that?

We could add a pole to this thread... How much oil does your turbo P80 Volvo consume in x miles?

I get a month out of my coffee filters. Even more than that if I use the same coffee

Then I dry them in the sun and use them as envelopes to get free coupons
