Sounds like the motor. Looking at that diagram it looks to me like the motors are wired hot and are grounded through the door switch. You should have 12 volts at each switch, if you don't, there is an open in the wiring or motor

Flip that - Both legs are grounded at rest.abscate wrote:Sounds like the motor. Looking at that diagram it looks to me like the motors are wired hot and are grounded through the door switch. You should have 12 volts at each switch, if you don't, there is an open in the wiring or motor
When a switch is actuated, the ground for
one side is lifted and 12 volts is applied.
Operate the switch the other direction
and the the same thing happens to the
opposite motor lead, reversing polarity.

Progress, sort of. I was able to short the driver's side enough to get the window to raise a couple inches. The motor is failing intermittently. Looks like if I can get it high enough, I'll be able to remove the glass. I got a replacement motor from a junkyard.

You can crank it back up mechanically but you need to remove the interior door panel to do so. We have several writeups and I think Robert has a video on how to remove the panel and what to expect as far as broken clips, mounts, and panel delamination that will rear its ugly head in the process.juggles wrote:None of this seems to be working. I've ordered a new switch but I still think the problem may be elsewhere. In the meantime, is there any way to mechanically crank or pull the window back into place?
Once the panel is removed, so long as the window is still on its tracks, you can peel back the sticker that covers the the manual override on the motor. As I recall it is a torx head and it is fairly large, like a T45 and it is centered on the gearcase next to the electric motor. It doesn't take a great deal of force but using a ratchet is the easiest way to do it. I was tempted to use a battery drill but I didn't want to risk shelling out the gearcase so I did mine with just a ratchet and was careful not to go too hard in the wrong direction.

I'm not sold that it's the motor. If it's working at all, it's probably OK.
Those things are pretty stout and it's extremely rare to see a failure.
Bad connections while hot wiring, low voltage or something going on
with the window regulator seem more likely to me. Just saying'...
I like the idea of operating it manually. If something mechanical is
hanging up, it should be pretty easy to tell. Hopefully you won't have
to take everything apart and it's a bad channel roller or a bad contact
in one of the connectors or something easier than a motor swap.
When you get to that point, if you still need a hand, it's
pretty easy to post pics here. Give us a look at it!

I've got the door apart, but I don't see anything that looks like a sticker covering the manual override on the gearcase. Here's a picture. Also, got a replacement switch this morning. The driver's side motor has worked a little in fits and starts, not enough to get the window all the way up. Smoke was coming off the motor earlier.

Bummer. All that I've got left is to unplug the motor connector
and inspect the contacts. Maybe try applying voltage directly.
But everything looks pretty clean there.
IIRC, to get the regulator out, you've got to get the window to the right
level to pull the track rollers. With a dead motor, that's gonna be fun...
Where was the smoke coming from?

I steered you a bit wrong on the location. The silver circular grommet just inboard of the motor is where the manual actuator is. There is a sticker over the hole but you can just punch through it.

OK, punched through the sticker, removed the grommet also. Here's what I found. Is there a tool that fits in that semi-circular hole?Ozark Lee wrote:I steered you a bit wrong on the location. Hmm, mine had a torx socket in it. Try a screwdriver I guess.
