The repair dilemma!

Had the parts and access to the tools, so did them anyway. Have to say though the seals were in pretty good condition. Not as hard as I'd expected for 20 year old seals.

Next weekend this car has to drive 1300 miles to California with my brother and I to his home I guess that will test the repairs!

Was the crank seal leaking?

Once all the oil was cleaned off, I don't think it was. But like I said, had the parts and tools, and already had the crank pulley and belt pulley off so made sense to do it anyway.

I'll be going after my front camshaft seals soon. I believe both are leaking. I'll know more when I get the sprockets off.

What a great relationship you have with a dealer! Very fortunate that.

It helps I helped out in the parts dept for a few months. I was asked to help out as they knew I only worked part time and they were short staffed. I really enjoyed the experience and developed a good relationship with the parts guys and workshop staff and management. We have had our disagreements over the 15+ years I have been a customer, but like any relationship you have to work on it. We usually come to a good result if there has been issues.

I have said it before, I know many people have had issues with their dealers, but unless they are continually screwing you or your car, then if you can work issues out I have found they learn to respect you and work with you. I agree I am fortunate, but it is a friendship that has been worked on over many years, and for the most part they respect me and my knowledge, in particular with the older Volvos.
