Re: Strange Heater/AC Operation, V70 1998
The defroster flow is dynamic in these cars. When you first start up, it won't blow defrost air since the coolant isn't warm yet, so the fan speed will be very low with electronic climate control, at least.

Hi again,
Oh ok, sounds good then. I'll keep that in mind.
After it warms up i'll see if it can cook my hamburgers too
Today it was kinda warm out...now strange weather.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hello again,
Ok this morn i was about to try the different things out as it was cool enough to try. I let it warm up but wanted to be sure so i drove about a mile to a store i had to go to anyway, then tried the "one click position after 12 o'clock noon position" with the selector switch (that's one click to the right of the 'defrost' setting) and it seemed to work pretty well as the AC went off.
Because Steve suggested that it would work better with the AC on, i will try that at some point too. Today was cool but not cold enough to really fog up the window so i'll have to wait for a good cold day for that.
Thanks for the ideas from all, and i'll have to try to find that button that says "solved".

Hello again,
Today i got a good chance to check this out a little better.
Turning the function switch to high noon (defrost logo position) and the AC turns on with the defroster, and turning one click after high noon to the right (clockwise) the AC goes off but the defroster stays on, so the windows cleared up pretty well. After i stopped for gas then drove home with the defrost fan off, then i turned it on in the driveway and somehow the AC turned on again so i had to push the 'off' button again. I never changed the function switch though.
I'll have to see what caused that next time, maybe because i stopped for gas and had to shut the engine off, but not sure yet. In any case it works so i am happier now

Since you seem to have doubts about the wisdom
of having the A/C engaged as Volvo intended, might
I suggest trying it both ways in similar conditions
and comparing the results. Just a thought.

Hi,
Yes thanks, that's exactly what i intended to do and as winter is coming i will get lots of chances to experiment
So far it was cold the other day but not a good cold where the windows get really bad. Soon it will be much colder so i'll try it both ways. As long as it does not get cold in the car i wont mind i guess.
