Removing the oil sump screen. Bad idea?

Oil pickup screens are stupid! I've seen many clogged oil screens. Some that have destroyed engines. If the useless pickup screen had been removed that normally stuck detritus would have harmlessly passed through the oil pump and pushed up into the oil filter to be removed on the next oil and filter change. The only material that will destroy oil pumps is metal and if you have that material in the bottom of your oil pan you have bigger problems. A clogged oil screen will definitely cause those bigger problems.

Isn’t getting a low oil pressure light better than risking destroying your oil pump?
