I serviced my PCV over 140,000 miles ago and it is still good. No mod, left it as designed.

I just serviced another one today, but used the Volvo aluminum hose from the 1999+ cars.

If serviced properly and good quality oil changes are done as needed, it may never need serviced again. If serviced every 10 years, that's not bad for a service that takes less time than a timing belt change.

You seem to be having more luck than the rest, but we have many here reporting problems.

I get your point in general, but removing the flame trap disc is not re-engineering at all. Or if it is, it was done by the Volvo engineers.

Because remember, Volvo stopped installing the flame trap disc in 1998 (or was it 1997?). Exact same PCV on the exact same engine block from 96 to 98, but they no longer put in the flame trap disc at the factory. Even all of 94 to 98 is the same engine, except for some bolt-ons.
