You're welcome. Once you start digging into the AWD on a P80, things can get a little confusing since Volvo made changes to the system every year. And I feel sometimes even the dealers don't know exactly what they're looking at.

When I ordered the new torque tube for my XC, the parts guy had me measure the input flange, or the end of the driveshaft if you will. Even though I gave him the VIN, he wanted to make sure they order the right one. I'm lucky because my car was built after the VIN break in 98' so it shares the parts with the 99' model. I learned that the earlier torque tube is not available new anymore from Volvo. That's the one that's shared with the 97' 850.

Good to know. Yes the never ending problem of obsolete parts for the AWD cars. That is why I have so many parts stashed as after the 9 months it took to find the parts to re-build the 2000 R last year it hopefully pays to have spares available.

Wow great find!!
The issue with the AWD Cross Country I've been having is lack of reading resources that reference the AWD system. I have the hard covered book for the 97-00 V70 & the book for 00-07 V70 and neither had any information concerning the AWD system.

I'm going to replace the front CV JOINT and I'll look for torque specs but if I like having the book. I know most use there laptop but I'm old school and buy the repair manual for every vehicle I own.

Video link of angle gear(2000 V70xc) with the companion flange having a lot of play, the companion flange is attached to pinion gear I believe and my best guess is that the front bearing is shot. I wont know for sure until I remove the entire Bevel Gear/Angle Gear assembly from the vehicle but I'm thinking it's the front bearing.

Ouch! Never seen one that bad! Clearly the rear 'companion bearing has failed, but with that amount of movement the whole haft may be toast.

Only way to find out is to pull the angle gear out as it is (I am told) much easier to work on out of the car than in. I gave all the parts to the dealer and they re-built the unit for me. Watch the rear seal is sitting an a good piece of the shaft as they can wear a groove and cause a new seal to leak. When apart, look at the sleeve into the transmission, it sits on a splined shaft in the angle gear to drive the rear wheels. The sleeve can strip it's and the angle gears teeth and make the whole unit toast. May be cheaper to buy a good used unit. Try Erie Vo-vo on your coast.

A friend of a friend who's a Tech at Eagle Volvo out here stated that his dealership doesn't rebuild them anymore and used are hard to find locally. I sent a response to the PM I sent you initially. I'm searching now for a used Angle Gear (BG), I know that 10th digit in my VIN # is a "Y", i gotta get her back on ramps for right part #, unless somebody knows correct part number. The CV joint in the front of the driveshaft is a little loose also. The carrier bearing and torque look good, probably because they were replaced at some point by the yellow marker markings on them.

I would think that Erie or the dealer could tell you the part number if you give them your VIN. If it is truly a 2000, it should be this one:

My VIN# has a "Y" as the 10th digit and according to Scot850 that's the chassis code for a 2000, thank you though I really appreciate the leg work. I will crawl under again to match up everything.
