I'd say your engine is okay- I lost most of my oil once when the turbo return line came loose on the interstate and I went and bought a jug and kept topping it off every 5-10 miles or so and stumbled home from about 50 miles away...first sign was also the oil pressure light (and then the film on the rear window that I noticed a few seconds after the light came on). Really, I should have just towed the car but I chanced it and was okay that time. Let me make a suggestion that you buy a skid plate after you get your oil pan replaced. They are on all of our Volvos and I won't drive one without it. They have saved us on several occasions! You might get lucky and find a used one for your P2 here in the classified section. If not, IPD makes an excellent one- their upgraded version that came out last year is very nice and easy to get on and off!

Your engine will be fine. Remember those commercials where they run them for minutes without oil pressure?

If you got the beast shut down in seconds, it will be ok.

Any chance of a temp patch to fill case and start and listen for noises would save you uncertainty.

I would put a new pan on it , new oil, and then refill my karmic bucket for the next year

Follow UP:

Had my mechanic do the pan in the end. Needed a new oil pressure sending unit also. $1448 later the engine runs great. Luckily I got her shut down in time. Not sure if this helped or not, but just one week prior to the incident, I had done a fresh oil change and put in the Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. It may have helped save it, but no way to no for sure. I did have an older V70T5 that got the pan punctured once and that engine suffered from rod knock and needed an engine replacement after only driving a mile from the incident site. It did not have Lucas in it. So, Thanks to Lucas, it might have helped save the engine.

Which ever ends later.

I'm still refilling mine from a 7000 mile work junket from DC to Boston, back and forth several times, then my 3 year old radiator blew out the end, 50 feet from my driveway.
