As a follow-up from 2017...

I finally bought this CV tool on ebay for < $20 ($17 or so).
This is the best investment ever.
Once the circlip is released, slowly crank the tool (I use a piece of old radiator hose as cushion),
and the CV joint comes off like butter.

In the past I had to use the vise and hammer/drift combo, which I hate.
This tool is a must, plus it is so cheap at $17.

Photos of the tool in action (2004 V70 2.5T axles with 110K, preventive CV boot replacement):

On a related note...

Question re 2005 XC90 2.5T axle...does anyone have an XC90 2.5T axle lying around and can measure for the diameter of the splines?

The round hole in the CV tool is 30 mm and I wonder if the XC90 axle can slide through this 30-mm hole...

May I have the link please? Do you know if this will work for the 03 S80 T6, 08 C30 T5 and potentially an 03 Odyssey. Joints are still good (that didn't sound right) so hoping to reboot before the rain starts.
Blessings,

I bought the tool from this ebay seller, based in Los Angeles, CA.

The key thing is to pull a bit, then as soon as the C-Clip catches, stop to maneuver the C-Clip so it does not get stuck.
If you keep pulling the CV Joint while the C-Clip refuses to let go, you will break the tool as seen in some youtube videos.
Some of these youtube people blame the tool while they forget to release the C-Clip.

Anyway, here is the ebay seller...

The tool mentioned above has a width of 100mm, so it can handle axle with CV width of 95 mm or so.

While watching youtube video on CV Removal Tool, someone commented that for bigger CV Joints, use Sykes Pickavant 08090000.

Has anyone here used Sykes Pickavant 08090000 for bigger axles (such as in SUV Volvo XC90, BMW X5 etc.).

I see this Sykes Pickavant 08090000 on sales on ebay UK website for about $50-$60.

Thanks for the info cn90. I just purchased one, though not from the same seller. Too lazy to scroll to locate your seller but this one seemed OK.

Nearly ruined my transmission shoving some cheapo Autozone garbage in there (didn't even put it past the c clip!!).. no amount of crowbarring, screwdriving, or swearing would release it. Had to weld up a DIY slide hammer from angle iron to get it out.. up there in top 3 headaches I've had keeping my 850 in shape.
This looks like a lifesaver!
(unrelated to this puller, and more towards the CV's you buy.. remember what they say- Buy once, cry once. Dont cheap out on your volvo!)

The unusual P2 axle design with a hole in the center allows this trick in the video below. The P2 axle has internal threads for the bolts. Many other cars axles use outer threads and nuts (Honda, BMW, or Volvo P80 etc).

Has anyone here tried this trick (using a longer bolt to push the CV joint outwards)?
