I missed the "few months" part the OP mentioned.
How foul is the rest of the car if you want to dump it (after Winter)? Why not dump it now?

I injected grease into my torn boot for well over a year.
That axle got replaced with a "new rebuild" when I did a whole bunch of stuff at the same time.

The axle was from a company with both good and bad reviews, Cardone. It was a forgotten "special order" and the counter girl gave me a super discount. I looked at it as a gamble and it's still going strong.

Oddly enough, several of the names listed in my post above say their product is new. Ergo, there's more than a slight possibility that the warnings of worn cages and ball guides being recycled don't apply.

Also, ALWAYS try FCPeuroparts (the old FCP Groton, CT) and eeuroparts. Those are good companies and don't deal with junk.

Buy GKN, they supply axles to Volvo. Half the price, FCP Euro has them.

Im going to catch holy hell for this but..

I would pull the boots back, inject in grease, wrap them in plastic and tape, and drive it for the few months left and then move on.
Bahahahhaa!! That's my kind of fix!! I seriously thought (am thinking) about that, maybe even just see what happens when they break. I need to fix it right though, going to sell it eventually and I need to be able to sleep at night.

The rest of the car isn't horrible. I drive it 100 miles a day. Got the itch to get another car though. I also have a good shot at a transfer with my company and won't take it with. Who knows though.....

What's this 'winter' thing anyways? I live in southern California!

Nice score from Erie!

Winter is when you guys turn on your propane heaters by the pool because it's 69F at night.
