Re: Leaks galore

OK after some harder driving it is definitely leaking out of the oil cap and the VVT seal. No oil spraying on the belt so I think the actual VVT gear is good.

I’m switching it to High Mileage Mobil One 5w-30 today to try and buy a month or so until I can get this taken care of.

Will probably tackle myself with a lot of research and some help. My local Indy is great in a pinch but he usually just wants to get in and get out with the broken item fixed, and fixing one seal without doing at least the TB pulleys and other front cam seal would be kind of dumb IMO.

All rad hoses are very badly needed and turbo needs a rebuild (for spitting oil, not to increase performance) so those items will be taken care of while the car is laid up for this work. Very good local turbo rebuilder for that part of the work.

Ill use this thread for some updates on the job in a few weeks

It is pretty much normal for oil to be on top of the cam cover, sad to say.

As for the exhaust cam it can be 2 things; 1. VVT hub seal. 2. Cam seal. Swedish car parts now carries the VVT hub seal. Either way, it's no fun and you should get a good cam locking tool to fix it.

Ok did the glove test finally. Really good vacuum at the oil cap fill hole. I was kind of surprised how much vacuum was there.

I added some dye to the oil and have been running it a bit today and then looking for any leaks. Borrowed the special flashlight and goggles from a tech at work and I’m seeing no leaks so far.

Gonna leave the TB cover off and drive it hard tomorrow some more and hopefully I can find where the leak is.
Just drive it normal.

Owners manual recommends 10w-30.

Isn’t it 5w-30 for winter ?

Won’t matter today, didn’t have time to do my last oil change so paid a tech at work cash and he over- torqued my drain plug. Gonna take it into the shop this week and make him back it out. What a pain.

Kids these days.
