My volvo diagram shows very small marks, almost like a vertical scratch on Both cams, ( 99 volvo V70 XC ) 2.4L turbo vin 56.. And marks on the plate behind the cams ( both in the 12 O clock STR8 up posistion).. Looks like the tuff part is tensioning it after installation..Mine is a 740 turbo. Its way diff than urs marks wise, but I have alldata program at home to tinker with..Look again closely at the cams and get back 2 me on it.

Thanks for the info.... I got the timing all good and it's out of my driveway!! Do appreciate all the help. I was using All Data as well. The actual problem i was having was getting the sprocket back on the exhaust cam in the right position. so i had to put the cams on the head and rotate them to find out what position the cam lobes needed to be, once i figured that out, the rest was a breeze.
Thanks again for your help!!!

Not "recommended".... NECESSARY
Lose a timing belt and you lose your engine!
Cost?
It depends on who does it.
Parts will run you (if you buy them) from $120 (aftermarket) to $180 (OEM Volvo) and if you want to change the water pump at this time, (not a bad idea) add another $50-$100 bucks
Labor will depend on who does it, It's a 3+ hr flat rate job
Can be done in an hour and a half by a mechanic who does these all the time.
Dealer cost will run from $550 to $800depending on where you are and the specific dealer!
Indie mechanic shouldn't be more than $400-$450 or so
