Drop the canister a bit for access then use line pliers to tighten the clamp.

It’s not critical on Evap parts under vacuum. You are just stopping the hose from falling off

$5.00 per clamp .. I use Zip ties in lieu of Oetiker clamps. So far no issues. I use a Cable Tie Gun to tighten the Zip tie until it snaps then dike off the excess.

Are cable tie guns cheap?

Zip ties are available in various grades, some are actually a bit pricey. Over time the cheaper ones don’t fair all that well when used in a high temperature environment and/or a dry climate. They can get pretty brittle.

You can pick up a good one on eBay for ~$15.00.

You can get all plastic ones for less but, the all plastics one do not have any mechanical advantage. The lack of mechanical advantage can be hard on older people with diminished hand strength.

The Nylon ties I use have a temperature range of -40°F to 185°F (-40°C to 85°C). I figure as long as it does not get heated by the exhaust or come in direct contact with the block, It will be OK.

As someone passing by this thread, what's the advantage of using these clamps vs the normal screw-tightening kind? These appear to be more expensive with no obvious benefit.

They're much faster to use on an assembly line.

That makes sense. I guess I should have clarified though that I mainly meant "for a joe sixpack working under his car", as I don't understand why you'd pick these over normal clamps that are cheaper, reusable, and don't require a special pair of pliers. Is it just for people who are obsessive about stock parts?
