Can the cem just be replaced. Or will it need to be programmed to car? Is VOLVO VIDA DICE OBD2
What you talking about?. I see them for like 80 bucks.
Or is it something a shop has to do. I have no problem buying one if that will help me pin point the problem. Thanks for your reply.

It would be guesswork to blame any one component without a Vida/Dice diagnostic session.

Yes for around $80 but look for good feedback and don't get the "Pro" version as the leads are mini USB to the Dice unit and easily broken.

There is a guy in California who can read/clone a good used CEM or a DIM which are uniquely coded to the car. His call-sign here on MVS is Yagger. He can also work remotely over the internet. All you need is the Dice unit plugged into a laptop and installed with the USB drivers.

Dealer won't do this unless you go with a new one and this means way too much expense plus towing fees.

Best bet is to scan the car then determine what Vida software sees (hopefully car can be read-check voltage at OBDII port first)

Ok thanks. Ill look into it and keep tracing connectors down. The old 99 c70 is first volvo I owned. Bought it few months for 900 bucks for winter car here in upstate ny. No beauty queen but I was hooked after driving it. Kid too. I changed timing belt first thing. Hasn't given me too many problems yet. Then kid brought this s60 home and we are working on it together. Thanks again and ill post what I find.

Sounds like Hector NY

:-)

I head out that way every few weeks for business at Corning and Cornell. Brumsted in Ithaca is the local Volvo Guru but of course its a tow to get it there.

Yep. I'm just off rt. 79 between Watkins and Ithaca.
I ordered a a Volvo vida so we will see what that says. Son is is in auto Tec. At boces. And I been working on cars forever but no volvos so this is good learning experience for both of us. We aren't in a big hurry cause he has my C70 to drive.

There is a big Volvo Fan in Enfield on way to Ithaca you must have seen. He has posted here - might be a good person to make friends with!! Almost bought a farm there in 1987 - as opposed to buying the farm..

The hill down 79 is a good test of your valve guides too.

A little bit west of you I think. Once in a while I go to Tburg via 79 and Jacksonville road just for the pretty drive.
