Hi,

That's still an 'open' question in science :-)

My guess is that you have to be in one of those alternate universes where hoods open, pop out of existence, then a new hood pops into existence in the closed position.
This conjecture is based on the 'Many Worlds' interpretation of quantum physics, as well as 'virtual' particles.
Sounds like a joke right? You might be surprised if you look all that up and you never read about that before...or bored if you did. Might be improbable, but not impossible.
Also following that line of thought, in another universe it could be happening over and over again right now as you read this. In our world, the probability is so low that it could take trillions and trillions of years to happen even once, and that means of course that we will not be around to see it unless gene therapy makes a few more advances and science advances to the point of being about to create stars and planets or we actually advance to the point where we can inhabit other places in the universe and nothing catastropic goes wrong in our known universe or we can find a way to inhabit other universes.
Sounds crazy right? Do some reading :-)

That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Sounds an awful lot like a failed marriage - a subject I have some expertise in. =)
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

Hi,

Ha ha, that's a good one.

The answer is of course that we dont know for sure until we open the hood :-)

One time i opened the garbage can outside and a squirrel jumped out and right on me, then jumped off.
That thing was DEFINITELY alive :-)

On a more serious note, maybe there is a measurement with say a spring scale. Test the upward pull.

You can put your hood up and measure 10 coil lengths. Then someone else can compare one from a car with a good hood!

Hi,

Well i looked but i dont see any springs, they must be under there somewhere. I just see the lever mechanism.

Hi,

I am assuming that Volvo is unique. So many weird things with this car i have to assume that anyway.
