Here is the section of ticket when the insulation was removed from the fan, than the later ticket replacing the fan. June

Thank you. Do you know why they replace that at the same time? Is it simply because they’ve already got everything open, might as well change that, too?

Yes, pulling the fan is not fun. Also since the part is attached to the old fan it might get damaged during transferring I imagine, as well as it might fail before the new motor. You would hate life if either happens. Think of it as insurance you won't have to mess with it again with Genuine Volvo parts. Lots of posts here discussing which aftermarket units are better than others. June

I have the same noise in my 2015 XC60. Checked the cabin air filter and it was all ok. Will be checking the blower motor tomorrow

Update: Turns out after I popped the hood and the cowl cover I could see into the blower. Turns out there was a piece of hard black rubber lodged between the blades. Removed this and it's back to normal. As for the rubber piece I have no way of identifying where it came from but it was about 2,5 cm in length and 5mm thick.
