Both my previous 850 (purchased in February 2014) and the current one (June 2018) came without working remotes. There was a non-functioning one with the previous car but the consensus on forums seemed to be that you had to buy a matching set of receiver and remote.

It wasn't until a few weeks ago that I found a remote in a 960 in the breakers and decided to grab it. It worked perfectly, it turned out that I'd been looking for the wrong kind all that time.

It's slightly different from the US version, lock and unlock is on the same button and the panic button isn't marked. I think all the later UK 850s came with an alarm and remote locking, we had a bit of a car theft epidemic in the early 1990s.

Once I'd found out the kind of remote I needed I was able to buy another pair from eBay, so now I have remotes to go with both keys and a spare.
Yeah. I’ve been doing that off and on all afternoon! Even did it a couple of time for my wife when she got home. For some reason, she didn’t seem as excited about it as I was... Even handed her the remote to have her try it herself. She just gave it back and said that’s ok. Oh well... ;)

Hi. I'm hoping that someone could give me the right remote for my 1996 Volvo 850 GLT.
It came with the 91 77 999 relay (no alarm, just lock and unlock feature)
It had no remote when i bought it.
Purchased the remote with part number 9442983 in the hopes that it would work.
Did some research and found that the relay or this remote should be the 9148881 and it is freakin difficult to find one.

1. Can a volvo guard tester be used to program my relay so that the remote would work?

2. Any idea what the part number of the remote that came with relay 91 77 999 (brown relay)

Thank you in advance

The brown relay is for locking and unlocking the doors without a remote. You need to swap that with the gray 210/211 relay. See an earlier post of mine with details
