"You introduced me Scotty Kilmer a while back and I tried the lacquer thinner cleaning catalytic converter on the Maxima last Saturday. After four days of driving, the engine light went out. I am going to bring it back to CarMax again this weekend and get rid of it. I am not sure if it is the thinner, the car gained at least 20HP and very responsive now."
This is from a friend I've known since the early 80's. Son of my Dad's military colleague. He was studying Aeronautics at Mississippi State but eventually got his Masters in Environmental Engineering then a Masters in Computer Science and is currently with Sysco. Even though he makes a ton of money we always try to find the least expensive and most efficient method to fix our cars, much like the folks here at MVS so that is what we are all trying to do and we are learning everyday to keep more funds in our pockets while having more fun with our cars.

Don't know if it will help, nor if it is appropriate for your particular situation, but...
xiaotec "850 OBD-II" Android app now has the capability to perform the transmission tests,
eg, to test each of the solenoids one at a time.

My first exposure to these was in 2013 or so. Didn't own a smart phone at the time so purchased a Wifi unit for an iPad App. I am so low tech I can't remember using Bluetooth on a regular basis. Experimented with Bluetooth and found it not usable for anything I needed.

You have a 98, the JWS 3309 is for the 5-speed auto that debuted in 99. You need Mercon/DexIII-check your manual etc. Also MoVolvos, the 98 shifter and mode select differ from those used 99 and up (like yours)MoVolvos wrote: ↑30 Oct 2019, 20:16 -
Not good, but great since you can consider that a flushing fluid. Get a case of this JWS 3309 Full Synthetic ASAP before it goes up. Can use the MVS link to help with this website at no cost to you. Additives in the fluid matter!

Price: $53.08 & FREE Shipping

Additives in the fluid matter! My GoTo transmission oil for a dying transmission but it's really expensive now and I've found thus far the Haveline is working out fine.

Does Sport mode change anything?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

I use to have a 98 S70 T5. The transmission fluid was coffee with just a little cream when purchased at around 230K, can't really remember now. The Multi-Vehicle should work as well as it is working nicely in my 03 Odyssey which is very finicky when it comes to TransFluids. Working well also in the 03 S80 T6. Don't know if it's the shift kit or combo of the Synthetic but the Transmission grabs (not jerk) immediately (instant response) when the pedal is depressed even slightly.
