Ozark,
These pictures are hacked and I can only see every other one. Any chance you could repost or put them all in one file? I looked at them a few weeks ago and they looked fine and now they are all hacked. I don't need to replace the foam but I do need to re-sew the leather.

The pictures used to be hosted by imageshack and I guess they got bored with them since there was no full frontal nudity and dumped them off of their server.

I more or less got the pictures restored but I can't get rid of the last one which is redundant - it doesn't come up in my edit screen at all. Matt may be able to fix that little problem.

I am thinking about doing this same procedure on my 1996 850 T wagon with grey leather interior. Anyone have a good source for a seat bottom? Also mine did not come with seat heaters but I would like to add one. Is it as simple as adding a switch and a heater element?

Prowl around the pick and pull lots and you can likely find one. I picked mine up from a member over on VS that was parting out his car. I bought the passenger's side cushion since it was less worn. The seat heater will complicate things since there are two elements, the seat bottom heater and the seat back heater. In order to install the seat back element you will need to remove the skin off of the seat back as well as the seat cushion. I have not yet had to remove any of my seat back skins so I can't give you any detail. If you do go that route be sure to get the wiring harness that interconnects the seat bottom and the seat back as well as the thermostat that is located in the seat bottom. Beyond that, all you should need is the switch.

Be sure to disarm the SIPS bag before you remove the seat. There is an orange colored safety inside of the switch panel and, as I recall, it has printed instructions on how to disarm the SIPS.

Kind of a related topic. My front seat leathers were shot. I went to a well established upholstery shop and they redid the front panels of both seat bottoms and backs using heavy cloth on the borders and micro fiber panels in the middle. Cost $700 for both seats, that was back in 2008.

The leather and cushions on my 850 driver's seat are in good condition, but the stitching between two of the panels on the seat bottom is coming undone badly. Is it possible to lift up the bottom section of the upholstery with minimal dis-assembly to repair this?

Likely not. There are a number of hog rings that support the tucked in parts of the lower seat cushion to metal rods so as to help the seat maintain its shape.

I've recently swapped in a manual grey cloth -no heat- drivers seat from a '94 with 75K miles.
It seems to place me further forward in the rear-most position.
However, with my stock leather-power-heated seat on my porch, I have time to consider my options.

In my case, the bottom of the seat gave out, plunging my butt lower, there was no lumbar support at that part of the back, etc . . .

I'd like nothing better than new cushions, but they are $250 for the pair, new, from DW.

My seat was a buck-fifty delivered from Erievolvo, but a picker would undoubtedly be cheaper.

Thanks Lee. Do you have any suggestions of what kind of place I might try to contact who might be able to repair it? I recall that I had a friend in college who used to have a business doing all sorts of interior car repair, mostly for dealers, and he seemed to be able to fix all sorts of things. I'm wondering if someone like that might have a technique of doing it without removing the covering...
