ishmaeldesk wrote: 04 May 2020, 16:16 I might have a couple of questions as far as the clutch and flywheel go. I'm swapping an m56 into a 1999 v70xc. The car I got the transmission off of is a 2003 s60 N/A. I'm working on getting a rack and pinion, pedals, and a shifter assembly. I'm going with an aftermarket boot and shift knob.

Do I just use the flywheel, clutch (looks almost new) and hydraulic slave cylinder system from the s60? Its not The 850 style with a clutch fork. The slave cylinder is external. ill post up pics if needed. Thanks for putting the time in to make this parts list!
I believe the slave is the same, but I would recommend replacing it while it's all apart with a new P80 internal slave. You'll need the clutch line for the internal slave P80 and you should be good to go. I'm pretty sure the S60 should have a dual mass flywheel, that will be just fine.

Is that an M56H or M56LK? I feel like at some point they switched to a larger input shaft. Either way, if you're using the original clutch, that shouldn't be of concern.
Any other question you have along the way, feel free to let me know!

Awesome. Thank you for the help. The other thing I was wondering is, does a fwd rack and pinion bolt right up? Or is there extra modifying i will need to do to lines and things like that? These AWD cars are frustrating sometimes haha.
Also, is there any benefit to using an internal slave from an 850/ p80 car? And if it’s just all around easier/ better is the clutch line and internal slave from FCP euro all I will need? If it’s way too much hassle and there’s no big benefit(s), or it’s straight up not neccisary to do the swap, I might just stick with the s60 slave. Thanks again for all the help!!

Yup, the FWD rack bolts right up. The only difference is that bracket for the transmission/engine mount.

The slave is easy to replace, two bolts and it's out. You could probably use the P2 slave, but I'm not sure. It's better to go ahead and replace it while the transmission is out of the car so you know it's new and you don't have to worry about it failing any time soon.
The P80 line is definitely necessary though, I don't think the P2 one works.

If you have everything else though, that SHOULD be all you need.

For pre 1998 here is a link to discussion about swapping the starter relay to enable cruise control after a manual swap

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=93892&p=541849#p541849

Basically it needs power on the 87a pin while not cranking. Anyone have the wiring on this to analyse?

This doesn’t show upon the 1999 diagram

I'll take a look at a '98 diagram when I get a minute. The '99+ cars just need a clutch sensor wired in after a manual swap to enable cruise control. I can confirm this works!

The '98 ECU is Motronic 4.4, the '99 has Motronic 7. So no, they are not compatible. You'll need to reflash the '99 ECU to manual, which can be done by Hilton Tuning. That can be ordered here: https://hiltontuning.com/product/volvo- ... onversion/
You will just need the ECM conversion option, the CEM conversion is just for P2s.

Yup, any FWD rack works if you're using an M56. I feel like there MAY have been a difference with later C70 racks, but I can't confirm.

TRW and SMI racks are interchangeable, you just need to use the correct inner tie rods.

I've got a 96 850 Turbo that I am planning on swapping to Manual. I've got an 01 S60 NA with an m56 that my cousin gave me to part out after he bought a new car. What parts can I pull and use from this car and which should I look to buy new from my local dealership? Also, is there a specific ECU I should buy? Or will I need a custom tune since the M56 I will be using has an internal slave cylinder? Thanks!
