Walking timing belt

Thanks, i just re tentioned the timing belt and its still wobbly, noise is less but the whole belt walks around 1mm (both directions) on all pulleys. The car has always made the noise, i assume its has been like that since ive owned the car some 4 years ago.I will fit the new Volvo belt kit and see if it fixes the problem.

Here is the Haynes manual instructions for tensioning the belt..is anti clockwise turning the allen key to the right correct?

Just turn the Allen so the the pointer moves to the right. You will figure it out real quick because you got to turn it the other way to get the belt on.

Perhaps making it clearer, you set the final position of the pointer

for the “ tighter “ side, not the “ loose “ side

Ok thanks, something is definitely wrong with my tensioner as when i turn the allen key the pointer moves in the same direction. I had a look at the new tensioner i have and its operation appears different. I think i will fast track this on my repair list for this car.
