Re: Window regulator

Post by RickHaleParker »

I would get the motor issue sorted out first. The odds something is wrong with the cassette is pretty slim.

If you want to go used. I got two used working regulators Left & Right with glass. Not going to do anything with them. I could part off the motor(s). I would make you a deal on the whole thing but I think the shipping would be high for a package that big.

I am going to take apart the motor, after I bench test the whole assembly. Just to make sure something isn't binding somewhere. Pretty sure the motor gears are slipping somewhere. If not, I will probably take you up on the left motor.
Many thanks RHP

This is an for an ongoing PM with RHP and I, thought it would be easiest to post it here. Guide wheel is stuck, if i take the screw out it turns freely, a little looser than the others, but does not pull off the spindle. The cable retainer tab is intact, although bent a little more than the others.

I think a PO was afraid it would come off.

A correct solution to alleviate that fear would be:
1. Drill a hole in the center and tap it.
2. Small washer as a spacer if necessary.
3. Fender washer the size of the Guide wheel.
4. Bolt it down.

Or one could JB Weld a Spacer and Fender Washer on.

Darn! now the motor is all dressed up with no place to go.

Whats odd is that it is drilled directly into the blue plastic. I have the DIY patio door roller PDF, I'll look at that real quick. I guess this is what happens with an ebay purchase. Funny also is that its worked fine for a year now. Oh well, I will put the cables back on and energize it via the door switch and see what happens. I will keep you informed.
Many thanks to RickHaleParker!

Look in the groove of the Guide wheel. Has the cable been cutting the Guide? Is it cut down to metal?

Oh good point, so I took a look. Nope, it looks fine. No uneven wear or anything. I pulled on the edges all the way round and no splitting tearing or anything like that. I'll test in the am...tks

Well, that non moving guide wheel was not the problem. I took the cables off the motor this am and moved the carriage up and down freely by using the cables. Then put it back together and tried the motor with power. Same result as before, no movement but a lot of noise.

Most likely the cable dragging across the pinned guide wheel stripped the plastic spindle
