Seriously

When I search for front engine mount I get 1500 pages of hits and lots of chaff

Part number nails it

Yup, gotta be specific with the mounts. The front and rear "engine pads" are almost identical, but different. Then the passenger side one looks totally different.

This was the one from the '03 S60... it was trashed!

I wish I took a picture of the one on the 98 V70 I just replaced the engine in. It was by far the worst I'd seen... totally separated into two pieces. I didn't even bother unbolting it to lift the engine, then realized the front part was hung up under the bottom bracket. Unbolted it and it let the engine loose.

Btw . From personal experience, I can confirm that some of these side engine mounts are chassis number dependent.

I have a 99 s70 and tried to use a used engine pad from a 98 s70 and it bolted to my frame just fine.
However, the mount to engine holes didn't line up.

All due to this being a chassis number dependent part.

I remember seeing a split on parts pages, I believe it was midway through 1998.

Remember to tell Juniorette no dating guys with car covers, unless there is a Beetle underneath
I'm afraid it's worse than a VW!!!! He quit school, joined the Marines and bought a God awful brand new Honda Civic Sport in red... it has the stupidest looking exhaust pipe i have ever seen. The whole car is ugly, it makes me sick every time I see it. His parents drive Honda as well... I am beside myself...... a HONDA........

Now they are trying to get married during this Coronavirus nightmare. Anyone who knows me, knows my biggest pet peeve is HONDA! It could also be said I hate them. I could accept Toyota or Subaru, but NEVER Honda! I am so disappointed.

I still have a son, at least I can hope for better from him. I'll warn him to lookout for beetles!
He has never driven, and as far as I know if it doesn't have a monitor or a keyboard, he isn't serious about it. So no wedding anytime soon.

I did my best to be as polite about Honds as possible. I didn't want to break MVS posting rules. My opinion could not be given in full color. Screwdrivers ventilating seats is small potatoes compared to Honda. June

June and Abscate, part numbers are good but readers should be aware that the side engine mount pad was redesigned somewhere around the 98 to 99 break. There are two different versions of this mount that look almost exactly the same, but the mounting holes WILL NOT line up if you have the wrong one for your car. I am guessing that you two are aware of this, but it needs to be pointed out to other readers and searchers. I just did mine on the '98 V70. At about 155k miles, the one that went bad was not a factory OEM Volvo part., so I may be on my third. I installed a Rein part. This was actually a pretty easy and quick job. I saw no signs of corrosion at all, but I don't live in upstate NY. In case anyone wants to know what the symptoms are, they are mostly noise and vibration. You may think you have an issue with your exhaust system. When the mount goes bad, the engine is free to move around because the rubber pad is no longer bonded to the brackets. It may not be obvious just by looking at it, but as soon as you lift the engine a bit with a floor jack, it is readily apparent.

Eddystone, You nailed This.

I had an open issue with occasional clunking in the CVs and guess what! It all went away with the motor mount replacement.

This was ugly...

Not to abuse a somewhat dead horse here, the usaparts website lists no fewer than seven (7) part numbers, and on another page shows two more - 8631699 and 9480190 - that seem to be NLA. Even plunking my VIN into the search template doesn't lessen confusion.

It might help if we document the hole positions next time someone has one of these off

Pretty sure my XC needs one, maybe this spring?
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
