And thanks abscate for the offer of a windshield and transmission! Unfortunately I think replacing both of those is a little beyond my skills/tools/patience :(

If you have workspace I can offer support, one day to pull, one day to install. I’ve got a kitchen Reno scheduled at my place so need garage open for that.

Need the test conditions for the above.

Check for shorts between the wire that should read infinity.

I’ve never removed a Volvo windshield though, might not be too Easy
I actually worked saturdays at an auto glass place for a few years and we left the wire method in favor of a sawzall blade made just for windshield work. I think a regular blade turned backwards will work almost as well in a pinch.

spray soapy water for lubrication and start at a corner :D

Harbor Freight sells the windshield removal tool commonly used by pros. It has a T-handle, razor sharp blade and a wire for pulling.

Thanks for all the suggestions, and especially offers to help out by abscate! I ended up selling the car, don't really need it right now, and then I save the cash for another, older volvo with more problems (240 wagon anyone?) It was sad to see her go, but hopefully some of the parts can keep your wagons running for years to come.
