Well, at least FCP has that warranty!
Volvo's OE parts may very well be dropping in quality... it seems it's happening to all brands. They're probably cheaping out on purpose to get us to upgrade to a new car. I was just going over my E39, then noticed in my records some dealer parts receipts from 3-4 years ago with a couple oil and CCV hoses that were replaced (of course with genuine BMW parts from the dealer) and they are already leaking again! I thought I had remembered replacing these things, but figured it couldn't be leaking again already. It's unacceptable given the markup on OE parts compared to OEM and aftermarket.
OEM stuff from FCP has been ordered!

I’m a bit disturbed how the cable went from no symptoms to no crank overnight.

I am running into this with a PS reservoir in my S70. This was replaced a year ago and 6k miles with a OEM part from FCP. It's leaking again which is so disappointing. I don't think it's leaking at the seams yet but it leaks at the cap for sure. I could just replace the cap and see if that cures it, but then I have to spend money on that. The FCP warranty is great, but even if I replace the whole thing it's not certain the new part is going to last the way it should.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑03 Feb 2021, 08:29 Well, at least FCP has that warranty!

Keep sending those defective parts back/ getting replacements from FCP. If their quality assurance people are awake, they will notice all the defects and try to get better suppliers.
Or FCP could just drop their lifetime free replacement policy.

Upgrade to the 2005+ P2 style PS reservoir, it's a must on the '99+ P80s! These reservoirs are so much better, and don't swell up and leak like the older style. I really don't know why Volvo even sells the old style anymore, they're horrible quality.850 LPT wrote: ↑04 Feb 2021, 07:54 I am running into this with a PS reservoir in my S70. The new one has as screw-on cap rather than the 1/4 turn cap, so it seals much better. The reservoir is made of heavier plastic, so it doesn't swell up and leak like the old one. All you need to fit it is the reservoir and the suction hose that goes to the PS pump. I recommend junkyard parts since the hose is outrageously priced new.
You can see how clean it stays. Kitty was keeping the engine warm for me.

Wow, thank you so much. I learn something new about these cars every day. And you're right, FCP would actually be well advised to discontinue these as they probably have to replace them under their warranty all the time.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2021, 10:10Upgrade to the 2005+ P2 style PS reservoir, it's a must on the '99+ P80s! I was SO happy when I first found out about this upgrade. I didn't want to waste money on the original reservoir since they all end up leaking again anyway.

I had similar trouble with the RAMAC version of the battery cable, bought at IPD and also offered at that time by FCP, on my 850 a while back:

That’s an excellent write up with root cause analysis. I’ll add part number to that one too.jreed wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021, 05:46 I had similar trouble with the RAMAC version of the battery cable, bought at IPD and also offered at that time by FCP, on my 850 a while back:

I’m going to source a clamp with the post for the fuse box connection so we don’t have to buy $90 Volvo cables to make this crap work
Again, jreed leads the way.....
