So that fact works against the chances of using a 960/sv90 fob.
Im confused here. I looked around and found a thread that said they took it to the dealer to program remotes. That guy said it took about 5 minutes or so and cost like I think $50. You said I cant use VIDA. I called the dealer. Service said it requires software but he's not sure. Service transferred me to parts. Parts said software isnt required on 98, thats on 99+. Then he said if dealer programming is required, it would cost 1 hour labor of $165. I asked him to transfer me back to service. I read back your post^ and he said yes software programming is required and they would use VIDA to do it, which would be $165 for 1 hour of labor. I watched a video of Robert programming his 850. In the comments people said they programmed 98 and 2001 v70 with the 5 turn thing. I found somewhere there are 3 alarm models offered on 850. Basic, guardian I, and guardian II. Perhaps one of these are carried over to the 98+ that allow manual programming.

I don't want to dissuade you from gathering information, CIK7, but I'd classify the ability to reprogram a keyfob as pretty far down the list of reasons to buy -- or avoid -- a particular car. These cars are 2 decades+ old now, there are many more important things to hammer down.

So many more that one could argue the given sample of car is far more important than even the model...

Just running VIDA is not enough to perform all of its capabilities. Maybe the dealer can do it with VIDA yes, but the DIYer can't.

This topic has been beaten to death here and elsewhere, you can't DIY reprogram a 98 fob. You can find almost anything posted once or twice on the internet, that doesn't make it true.

That's true and no its not a crazy priority for me. Its just that Ive had a 98 before with only 3 keys and no fob. Having a fob on my 96 960 was fantastic and convenient. I had hoped there was some sort of way that fob or any could be programmed for cheap. Im a cheapo kind of guy normally.

Why are there so many cheap people upon this Forum? Glad I’m not one of them.....

Life advice, don’t be the guy who walks 50 feet away before you “ chirp “ your car. It’s like car covers and car bras, bad signs.
