Best way to learn these cars, make a few mistakes, do the job twice. Small consolation, but you've learned a lot about a number of systems.

I had a similar problem on my 1998 V70-T5. Loss of power, pulled over to the shoulder. Would not start. Towed back to my brother's home garage. Replaced 103 relay, checked fuel rail, OK. Replaced original 103 relay, OK. Checked coil, spark OK, Checked plugs, spark somewhat weak. Gapped plugs. No change. It was a rainy day. Checked the rotor and cap. The cap was wet inside with OIL! Pulled the rotor and shield and distributer off to find the INTAKE cam shaft seal had fallen out allowing oil to seep into the distributer cap. Reseated the seal, cleaned the cap with brake clean and reassembled everything. Car started. Ran a little uneven but smoothed out after warming up. Drove the 350 miles home the same day. No more problems.

That part has indeed shuffled off its mortal coil.

Well it has been confirmed to be a lasting fix. Got new tires, charged the AC, and did the cabin air filter (it was a sandbox on top of it). Did 1100 km over the last 4 days so the car is back to normal. Thanks for the help!
