If speedo is working intermittently along with odometer...that would be the sign of bad abs module or abs sensors.

Do you have abs/tracs light ON when engine is running?

Sorry to oppose, but on my 96 the speedo works, but the odometer only works intermittently. The ABS/Tracs lights are on, so the module is probably the culprit.

I'm going to go with a bad gear in the odo. It's a known failure.

One bad tooth in the wrong or right location can cause the odo to work sometimes and not others.
