Hosting 3D models of Volvo parts on MVS

I recall a Jay Leno shop video where they acquired a high dollar printer, scanned and modeled a broken 1 of 1 vintage part, printed it in plastic, then molded and cast a steel part. It was their way of keeping very rare cars working and “original.”

The methods I've seen involve laying down sand as a support material and depositing tiny metal grains that are laser melted into place. Other methods involve filament impregnated with metal slivers. It's quite fascinating. A quick search on YouTube for "3d printing metal" shows many good examples. I would love to make some of my designs out of metal for better durability. The affordable home metal printing is coming, we just have to be patient.

I'm thinking MVS role would be hosting the torrent listings and the torrent tracker. You could setup the MVS server as a super seeder, host all the files and put a cap the monthly bandwidth. Torrent is a distributed peer-to-peer system. Its up to the community to seed and keep the torrents active not just one node. If we can get 100 members to setup a seeder and donate just 1GB of bandwidth per month that is 100GB / month. It could work out a lot better then them numbers.

With 1TB+ caps on home networks. There should be plenty of members that can spare GBs that don't cost them anything extra. That the beauty of torrent. A group can do distribution with something that otherwise goes to waste.

I can understand why some hereditary kings were so nasty. They got a bum deal. Their whole life was decided for them.

True. The scanning would be nice for reference when rebuilding 3d models but may have to wait for consumer models to improve in technology. If someone does end up getting professional scanning i would recommend scanning the the dash in 1 piece. Then carefully deconstruct it and scan the individual pieces. Important items are bolt hole location in reference to each other and curvature of certain parts. It's a process. Im really thinking of trying that revopoint model that's like $600 but I'll have wait for funds. Not to mention the gargantuan printer I'm planning on building. I've always wanted a large printer for other projects as well.

Tried my hand at 3d printing some ECC knows. Mine are broke and I have yet to find some good ones. I reused the metal insert for added strength. The center portion is left open while waiting for an opaque material to glue in place.

Ive made a few changes and would like to upload some STL files for the ECC knobs. Would it be better to for me to start a "build" style thread just for my 3d stuff?
