Keep a vernier caliper handy and when you take bolts off the water Pump, they get labeled

M6 x 35 , 10mm hex head

I then write that on the note page of the procedure I’m following

When I find loose bolts, I can measure them and figure out where they go.

That gets much easier when you have a donor set (engine+transmission) laying in far corner of garage =) Also you can always borrow that lost bolt, etc.
