Hope this helps. If it is not ok to post this then please remove.

So, that black thing marked with the SRS sticker isn't "live" in any sense? I thought I saw wires going to one end of it, but I have not looked at it closely, yet. The pdf mentions "...and SRS passenger airbag module:Disassembly ."

I believe the black shield has the srs sticker , the actual airbag is in a silver case.

The recirc damper motor comes off attached to a mount which can then be removed off the car easily. The mount has a single screw accessible under dash

The airbag is attached to the top section of the dashboard. The sticker is just an information sticker. Like anything, working under the dash, disconnect the battery prior to working there for safety.

There should be I think 3 nuts on studs holding the brace in place. 15mm I think. on the RHS footwell, 2 nuts in recesses on the right end and only one on the left. The other hole has a ratchet type unit in which makes it a little tricky to remove.

The sticker just announces that the knee bolster is part of the 'system', I saw it described as 'anti-submarine' protection. Race cars use a crotch belt for the same reason.
Like Neil, it has been a while since I had that part of the car under inspection, but the recirc lever wasn't any large job. The blower motor has a wire bundle across it though, and the tape wrapper is gonna be slimy. It just gets the wire ties cut and pushed aside.
Hope you get a spell of good weather.

I fiddled with the arm yesterday, and I don't think it'll be too bad getting it off, if I don't drop the arm and have to try to fish it out. I've got a new one on order, along with headlight wipers from FCP.

Thankfully the blower seems to be okay for the moment, which gives me a bit more time.

do the fluctuations include dimming of the dash lights or head lights depending on the system you run? I have had this issue due to a loose battery connection and bad battery terminal. are any wiper motors seized? my rear wiper drained a battery recently when left on while trouble shooting something else. hope this helps

Yes I noticed the lights dimming when it happened at night.

The wiper motor is fine.... used the wipers today as it was raining on my drive. Unfortunately, I have a minor leak someplace because I found water beaded up on the carpet, and in the floor mat when I got to work.

I believe the battery connection is okay. I suppose I could pull it apart and double check, but I could not move the clamps by hand. I installed a new battery when I bought the car... before I actually got the car home, because the old battery was toast.

I have not had this issue for several days now, but I suspect it'll return.

FCP order arrives tomorrow/today/Wednesday..... hopefully I can get that recirculate arm installed. I messed with the button tonight while watching the shaft with a flashlight. Does this thing calibrate itself? I heard a clicking noise, like maybe a gear tooth was skipping each time I flipped the switch. I could see the shaft turning back and forth, but I wonder if that's why the original arm broke. I'd hate to install the new arm and immediately have it break.

I'm tempted to pull the actuator and take it apart.... if it'll come apart?

Just make sure you know where the arm is when you fit it. If I recall it can only be fitted one way.

Make sure there is no debris in the cold air flap area that may cause it to bind.

The actuator is fairly easy to remove and you can then see is better. Leaving the cable attached and you can see if it is moving ok. You can also manually move the operating leaver for the cold air flap and see if it moves easily.

The intermediate arm is 25 year old plastic and they break with age. I think I have replaced them on every P80 I have had at some point. I now have a few spares just in case.............!
