Then try taking it to your local auto glass shop and ask them about it. Good to have a relationship with one of those shops anyway for obvious reasons. They probably have the proper glue. I'm guessing it's an epoxy, as opposed to the butyl type. If your lucky, they won't charge you anything, thinking about your potential future business ( windshield ).
Sounds like a good idea, thanks.

I have two tests set up now with high quality silicone.
One is on plastic like the backing and at room temperature, the other is in the fridge at about 40 degrees F.
They both cured within 12 hours.
I didnt test the strength of the plastic test yet because i want that to go the full 24 hours.
If the plastic test goes well i might just go with that and forget about it for now.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

So when the glue fails and the mirror glass is gone, get a used one. I had the mirror re bonded by a glass shop and it was gone by the time I made it home. So when the second did the same thing I went straight for a new replacement. I broke the mirror on a 2012 Prius and the replacement was $1,500. I drove it only once... June
Yes that's an option too thanks.
We have far and few junk yards around here anymore though.
Long time back we had two very large ones in South Plainfield. They both closed up.
We also had one about a mile from here. Closed up.
Id have to look around for another one. We might have one left up the mountain but not sure how big it is. I'll have to check and see if it is still there.
I think they have been selling out because of real estate prices.

So you are saying that the plastic part pops out? So i can take it into the house and examine it and test it with my glue or whatrever. Is that right?
How hard is it to pop out?

Yes there is a smooth plastic plate insdie filling up the whole entrance of the mirror cup.
So yes the glass separated from the plastic.
The plastice may have warped slightly so the glass probably wont fit flat aganist the plastic so i guess a lot of glue filler will be needed. Well, a little more than usual i guess but no big deal.

Now does silicone stick well to plastic, that's the question. It has to stay on or else it could drop of on the road somewhere i might not even notice it right away. Dont want to have to buy a whole new mirror :-)

You know what else is strange, there is no glue on the mirror or the plastic backing.
I think you're over thinking this. Just get some spring clamps, silicone glue, and clean your surfaces well and stick it together. The clamps will bend the plastic to the glass.

You might put the plastic in a sunny window just to heat it up a bit. Soap and water to clean followed up with alcohol.

Well i'd love to do that but how do you get the plastic backing plate out from the mirror shell?
Only the glass came off not the backing plate.

You’ve got Harry’s in Hazleton nearby, and Alex and Sean here both frequent junkyards and can scavenge easy parts for you. Kick them some bucks to keep the Kharmic scales level

I’ve got a 99 scavenge in my driveway too, what parts are needed?

You'd have to list their screen names.

Thanks.

My Service Advisor popped the old ones off and the new ones on right on the Service drive. It took him all of a minute to do. The plastic just popped off, then the new one went on with a snapping sound. He's not a mechanic, so it must be easy. June

Hi June,

I included a pic of the plastic part both sides.
Thanks for the info i got it off now.

The pic hows the side where the glue goes and it has a bunch of metal paths on it as you can see. That means it is heated and that was a bit of a surprise to me i did not know they were heated. The two indents show there the connetion posts are mounted.
The back of the plastic just looks like it has some catch posts that go into the mirror when it is reinstalled. The two terminals are clearly visible.
The circuit traces measure 8.7 Ohms.
