06 XC70 headlight covers - do they have a coating? Topic is solved

I ended up removing and cleaning the headlights starting with 1000 grit and then 2000 and 3000. Not convinced that was harsh enough based on what was written by Skymongrel above. I ended up finding a 2nd box of Meguires HD headlight restoration kit as the one I bought several months ago turned out to have the coating applicator sponge missing. I could not get a straight answer from Meguires as to what I could use. They did offer to send a replacement though............!

I then returned the 2nd kit as it was close enough to sale date to return (1st kit bought from same retailer!).

I decided to not 2K paint them as they were not good enough and the weather not warm enough to use 2K paint in the garage as it is attached to the house. It is good enough for now.

Can one replace the UV coating with a known good product?

There is no known good product, unfortunately. Once the plastic is faded and polished, it will re-fade quickly no matter what you do to it.

I had a set of freshly polished lights and had ordered new headlamps so I could compare them side by side, and I'll never bother polish a headlight lens ever again. Even freshly polished, it was a sad sight next to the clarity of a new one.

Since they're safety devices, I'd go with a replacement lens, or entire headlamp assembly if there are no lenses available.
