In the last few days I mixed concrete in a wheel barrow for two 3 foot square pads. Each pad took about 3 hours. About 6 loads of 18 shovels full each. Mix was 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 3 parts rock. Two more 3 by 3 pads to go. Ready mix concrete was not really an option as it is not acessable for a truck and would be only 2/3 of a cubic yard total.

You can pickup a yard of concrete from a short load, the leftover of a nearby job. You can get this cheap.

My shop behind the house no longer has a hole in the floor. It was all filled with new concrete. Next up moving 5 spare engines (3x4, 1X6, and 1X8 cylinders) over the old holes and make lots more floor space.

Do you have any tips on repairing a crumbling garage floor? The concrete is literally breaking apart, mostly in the areas where moisture and road salt would pool.
I was thinking of chipping away all the loose stuff and then mix some concrete and fill the cavities. But I wonder if that's the right approach.

If it is freeze and crack. I would think you want to seal it with Floor Epoxy. To prevent future damage.

I am no expert on this, but you could try a topping mix (1 part portland cement to 3 or 4 parts masonary (fine) sand). You may be able to buy topping mix at hardware store. Mix with just enough water to hold together and smooth with a trowel into the holes. Get all the loose stuff cleaned out of the holes and scrub good with plenty of clean water. Wet the holes (damp) before adding the mix.

You can also add concrete adhesive to the mix and apply some of it to the raw old concrete before you pour. You should be able to buy it at HD etc. Then you could seal the whole thing as Rick said.

All great advice guys, thank you. I will have to start chiseling away on the holes and see how large of an area I have to repair. That will probably be a very dusty job. I do have a Bosch hammer drill but maybe I will try to do this by hand first.

Use gloves and eye protection. Eye plugs if you get tired of hammering and use the hammer/drill. But we always do that anyway. :lol:
