Trying to order a drier from FCPGROTON but they appear to be unavailable at the moment (today). Website is unavailable.

Pulled the trigger and ordered a used compressor thru Pep Boys (3 year warranty if you can believe that). They ordered from a place called everdrive; anybody heard of it?

Pep boys has DuPont 134-a (Suva) on sale for 6 bucks a can right now if anyone's interested.

On a side note, the green expansion tank cap split open yesterday and had to replace with the bluish one from Volvo (was a hell of a lot more than the 5 bucks I saw on FCP) and some BLUE Volvo antifreeze (which coincidentally was a hell of a lot more than what I would have paid the local shops).

Ahhhh, the price we pay to run Volvos (WHEN they break).

It's all good though... the soccer-mom-mobile is running out stuff to break. She'll be better than new when finished.

Picking up a compressor today. Found this link on the web: application guide for which PAG OIL to use:

http://www.wrenchead.ca/pub/PAG_oils_application-05.pdf

Volvo Seiko Seiki uses PAG 46
Volvo Sanden uses PAG 100

Also found reference in owners manual to ZXL 100 PG in the owners manual (page 1:19 for 1995 850).

Hope this helps... The soccer-mom-mobile will be cool once more!

Thanks for the reference on the PAG oil...have always wondered which was correct- last time I took a chance on one of them but I don't recall which one. I guess there was either no harm or I got it right as there have been no ill effects.

All right. used compressor and new drier are in. System flushed and leaktested.

It would appear that my compressor is/was a ZEXEK DKS-15CH using PAG100 oil.

Runs great!

BUT a word of caution to those future compressor replacers: do NOT try to fill the compressor on the DISCHARGE side (the one marked "D"). You will invent new curse words for the $1/oz oil you just dumped when you tilt the compressor back to the running position. Fill from the "S" port (suction).

The old compressor is going in to be refurbed in town - got an outstanding shop here (Austin Rebuilders).

The everdrive compressor looked like hell when I got it but functionally is still doing what I paid for it to do...

Next stop is replacing the evaporator... Until the next time.

To all those that contribute to this thread, thanks for your help!

branlock wrote:I am new to this forum butI have found that I have a problem that is NOT new. I have read all the A/C posts in this thread and see that I am not alone. I do not think there has been a follow up to this mysterious problem yet. My 1999 V70 XC wagon will suddenly stop cooling, usually after an acceleration or braking occurrence. Usually also happens on hotter days (go figure) :-) If I turn off the power to the climate control and then turn it back on, it will blow ice cubes again. I want to make sure it is clear that I have a good charge of freon and it is not leaking. When it works, it REALLY works and blows colder than any of my cars I have, but then it shuts down completely until I do a power cycle. Boy it gets hot after 5 mins of no A/C in the summer!! On some mornings, or LONG drives, it will work properly for hours. It see,s to get worse later in the day. If anyone has found something to help, I would appreciate a reply to this post. BTW I already have a replacement climate control unit I got from dalvage and havenot tried it yet. I have been considering replacing the LOW and/or HIGH side pressure switches. I also read on another forum about changing a cable connection on the compressor that makes it work better in tropical climates? I am in FL. Any ideas?
My wife's '99 V70 AWD has the same symptoms. A/C blows cold for a while then blows hot. She has to turn off the A/C for some time then turn it back on. The car has no problem blowing volumes of air. I suspect that this is the compressor gap issue talked about on several posts. There are two ghetto fixes and one more involved fix. I hope to try one of these fixes this week as I am sure this is the same problem. I am still a bit confused as to why these fixes actually work, but I think it will be more clear once I get in there and have a look for myself. In the meantime you can check out the posts on VolvoSpeed which will require you to join (1 minute process) to see the pictures and pdf files.

Look for A_C_Cluch_fix.pdf in the thread linked below:
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/Ac-Therm ... 76833.html

There are two ghetto (read as easy but not pretty) fixes listed in the thread below:
http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.ph ... opic=80181

I can't guarantee that I will post back to this thread but I hope that others reading this may find these links of help.

Racemaster33 wrote:I've got a 98 S70 Turbo that is doing something strange. The AC will work fine for a while then it will stop coming out the vents, all of them. The AC is still cold and the fan motor is still running fine but all the vents shut off. I've tried it on every setting and fan speed but once it makes this "change" that's how it stays until we shut the car off and let it set for a while. It sounds like either the control unit or some damper control motor is overheating. Has anybody see this problem before? I've seen domestic (chevy) cars & trucks have damper motors go bad and not allow the driver to choose the location they want the air to come out, but never this. If anybody can help please let me know. My car is black and I'm roasting!
I have a 1995 850 turbo that is doing the exact same thing- It seems to happen if I've been driving for a longish run (around 45 minutes or so) it will blow cold until the "aut" mode until it gets cold enough to kick it off, then it won't come back on, even if I switch it over to manual mode.
I'm guessing it's a damper in there as I still hear the fan blowing.
Any advise is appreciated!
