When a timing belts is installed is it suppose to be really snug..tight tension wise? I just installed mine and it seem to have a little looseness at the front of the engine behind the drivebelt tensioner. I installed a new tensioner and I was wondering if it took awhile to tighten up the belt. Please let me know
Thanks
Tri
1998 S70 T5 Low Compression after stall, will not retart
I turned the key today and it started right up, the first time in 2 months 5 days and about 13 hours. She smoked really bad for about 10 minutes than I took her out for about a twenty five mile spin. Had issues with a couple of codes PO117 and a P0120. I checked the ECT and it wasn't connected real tight. took care of that and reset my CEL.Codes are all gone after another small trip.
To end this thread I want to tell you what my problem was. The nut on the cranckshaft was never reinstalled by previous owner's repair person, after they had the waterpump/timing belt changed out. The timing gear on the crankshaft worked it way towards the end of the crank shaft and pretty much dangled until it wore out enough splines on the gear to cause the crankshaft to spin in the gear throwing it out of time enough to cause a stall and a no start situation. But the timing marks all showed that it was on time that's because the shaft turned just a little without the gear. Not enough to damage the valves a great deal (just minor nicks on the pistons).
A certified shop took the head off and tried to con me ito thinking the whole head needed all new parts $ 3800.00 worth. People from this forum told me that they did not believe my valves were damaged (Pfeener) I took the head to a machine shop for a valve job. All was needed was exhaust valve guides. After paying $225.00 I started the process of installing the head. Due to time and weather conditions It took me awhile to finish and the fact that I did not remove the head only added to the time. I've learned alot through this process. I will still plan to have a face to face with the Certified Volvo person and ask him why.
But in saying that I made some friends on this forum,I like to give props out to Pfeener, OZarK_Lee, MIJ the VADIS King, Greasefingers and all the others. Thanks for all your help and patience. A very famous person once said "it is finish."
It's time for upgrades!
